There
sand castles
cast stark shadows,
blue against powder shores.
The children celebrate their feat
like a triumph against great evil.
Let them, while there is too much
light to see the grains that slip away.
Sunset pours, the sea will swell like a body
drowned; castles and cities of sand preserved in salted dreams.
